| The European Investment Bank has approved a £180m loan for the Sunderland plant of carmaker Nissan.
Loan comes as relief for car firm which has shed thousands of staff in slump
The cash will come from a £380m green-car loan to be split between the manufacturer's UK and Spain factories.
In a further boost to the beleaguered car industry, the EIB also confirmed a £340m loan for Jaguar Land Rover to invest in greener vehicles.
The loans, which will be guaranteed by the UK Government, are part of a £2.3bn package for the UK motor industry announced by Business Secretary
